Manpower Training is a very costly investment for any organization as it is taxing on man-hours and finances too. It is also a core aspect of organizational development and business growth. Unfortunately, as much as a lot is invested in this core element, many points are missed making the investment a loss and the process pretty fruitless. Below are a few points to help us get it right....do it effectively
1. Determine the training needs . Know the skills of the employee then determine what improvements are needed and what new additions are required. You can get this data by doing and complete skills and needs analysis.
2. Evaluate each employee’s individual job effectiveness to see if the proper tools and information have been provided to effective performance. If it is established that an employee is struggling to perform a specific task, try to establish the reason why, is it lack of skill? Lack of proper information of how the task should be done? Lack of interest? or lack of knowledge of what is expected of the employee.
3. Clearly communicate to the employees that it is imperative for them to have specific training and encourage them to come forward and state their areas of weakness that they need to be trained in for improvement
4. Recognize those who complete training. Issuing certificates and announcing those who complete the training to motivate the employees thus enhancing interest in training.
5. Ensure that training offered is as suitable as can be for the trainees. If necessary, customize training modules to ensure they fit your business’s needs specifically.
6. Offer training detailed enough to help employees deal with specific situations. If the training is too basic and too generalized, employees might consider it a waste of time and it could lose the bulk of its potential effectiveness.
7. Always carry out an effectiveness analysis to weigh the effectiveness of any training you offer in the organization.
